The Boa Esperança REDD+ Project is located at east Amazonas State, in the Northern region of Brazil. The region is rich in hydric resources, such as the Amazon River and the Balbina dam. The primary objective of this Project is to avoid unplanned deforestation (AUD) of 8,998 ha of project area, consisting of 100% Amazon rainforest, which is located within a private property, in the municipality of Presidente Figueiredo, Amazonas State.

The Project employs a range of advanced technologies and strategies to ensure effective conservation and monitoring. These measures include drone and airplane overflights, satellite image surveillance, and real-time monitoring through an app.

The commitment to improving the project is supported by the revenue from carbon credits, which aim to improve remote sensing methods and data quality. In essence, the Project combines advanced technology, community involvement, and rigorous monitoring to achieve its social and conservation goals.

A project to conserve and
protect the forest and its biodiversity

Biodiversity

Prioritizing the protection and monitoring of endangered species stands as a cornerstone in the project’s comprehensive approach to conservation efforts. By focusing on these vulnerable species, the project aims to contribute significantly to their survival and the overall biodiversity of the region.

Socio-Environmental

The establishment of dedicated teams in monitoring, sustainable forest management, firefighting, workplace safety, and first aid reflects the project’s commitment to ensuring a holistic and responsible implementation. This approach not only safeguards the natural environment but also emphasizes gender equality, promoting inclusivity within the project’s workforce.

Sustainable Development

The proponent’s substantial monetary donation serves dual purposes: supporting the construction of a community signage portal on the road and contributing to the expansion of the ‘Boa Esperança’ community school. By increasing the school’s infrastructure from 5 to 7 classrooms, the project directly addresses the educational needs of local children, providing a tangible and lasting impact on the community.

In order to address the challenges of the project region and our goal of forest conservation and preservation of local wildlife, we work to replace the causes of deforestation and degradation through actions focused on the needs of local villages, including: intensifying and diversifying agriculture through the introduction of new technologies and farming practices, increasing access to quality education, improving public health practices, and promoting sustainable economic development for the inhabitants.
